District Map Drawing Tools

The City is changing the way that City Councilpersons are elected. We need your help in deciding where the district boundaries will be drawn.Currently, all five Councilpersons are elected at-large, meaning that all registered voters who reside in Kingsburg have the opportunity to vote for all five City Council positions. Under the new district-based election system, Councilpersons will be elected by district: Councilpersons will be required to live in the district they represent and will be elected only by the registered voters of that district.

In order to comply with the California Voter Rights Act, the City of Kingsburg has begun the process of moving to district-based elections. As such, the City has hired a professional demographer to assist with the process. The demographer will create draft map(s) with five districts that will be presented during the regular April 18 meeting. Citizens will also be able to give input at meetings on March 21, May 2 and May 5. The city has a 90-day deadline to make the change.

A map-drawing tool has been made available to the public (instructions are on the map).
